A five-carbon acceptor molecule known as ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate (RuBP) receives carbon dioxide during the dark reaction.
This occurs during the second step of photosynthesis also known as the Calvin cycle. During this cycle, carbon dioxide enters the leaves through the stomata and is converted into sugars in the stroma of the chloroplast.
The first step of this reaction is where RuBP receives carbon dioxide and is converted to 3-phosphoglyceric acid (3-PGA) in the presence of rubisco.
