Major Dhyan Chand toured New Zealand country in 1826 with the army hockey team of New Zealand country. There he played 21 matches for the Army Hockey team. Of these 21 matches, three were in Tests. In a total of 21 matches, his team won 18 matches. Two matches were drawn and only one match was lost. His team scored 192 goals on the opposition team and the opposition team could only score 24 goals on his team.
Dhyan Chand was a great hockey player from India, who is also known as the magician of hockey. He was a member of the three-time Olympic gold medal-winning Indian team, which won three consecutive hockey gold medals in 1928, 1932 and 1936.
Dhyan Chand was born on 29 August 1905 in Allahabad, then United Provinces. Later his family shifted to Jhansi. Major Dhyan Chand started playing hockey in 1922 after joining the army. His source of inspiration was Subedar Major Tiwari, under whose inspiration he started playing hockey and became a hockey great with his dedication and hard work.
He also toured New Zealand for the first time in 1926 as a member of the Army Hockey team.
Later he led India in many Hockey tournaments. He was also a member of the Indian Hockey team that won the Olympic gold medal.
His birthday 29 August is celebrated as National Sports Day.
