India stands out in South Asia as a country that has successfully negotiated peace, tranquillity and communal harmony among the diverse ethnic groups living in the country. This is an extraordinary achievement considering the size of the country, its vast population and the wide variety of its people.
In recent times, after the long-drawn Tamil conflict, Sri Lanka too has been able to broker peace among its ethnic groups. The violence and mayhem in the Tamil dominated areas is now a part of history.
