The term Down Under is a colloquialism which refers to Australia and sometimes also refers to New Zealand. As both the countries lies under the southern hemisphere below many other western countries, the term Down Under was significantly used. Down Under was not officially used in Australia but often used by outsiders. However, before the discovery of Australia, explorers named the continent as “Terra Australis Incognita” meaning Unknown southern land.
