Which criteria is used for the classification of plants? Explain with reasons

The basic criteria of classification of plants is number of cotyledons i.e. Plants are classified on the basis of number of cotyledon.
There are 2 types
i) Monocotyledon
These plants have only 1 cotyledon and other is called scutellum
ii) DiCotyledon
These plants have two cotyledons.
