Every year, 26th November is celebrated as the Constitution Day in India to commemorate the adoption of Constitution of India. This day is also known as the Samvidhan Divas. On 26th November 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India adopted the Constitution of India, and it came into effect on on 26th January 1950.

The Government of India had declared 26th November as the Constitution Day on 19th November 2015 by a gazette notification. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared this on 11th October 2015 while laying the foundation stone of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar memorial in Mumbai. Dr. Ambedkar was the Chairman of the drafting committee of the constituent assembly.
