Ca(OH)₂ or Slaked lime or Calcium Hydroxide is used for white washing. When Slaked lime reacts with CO₂, it releases Calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) which gives shineness to the surface.

Reaction: Ca(OH)₂  + CO₂ →  CaCO₃ + H₂O
