Answer:

In Schottky defect ,the density of an ionic solid is reduced. This defect was discovered by German scientist Schottky. It arises due to missing of same number of cations and anions ions from their positions and thus creating vacancy.. Hence it is also called as Vacancy defect in Ionic solids.

Schottky Defect is the Cause

Explanation:

  • The point defect or it can also be called the imperfections in solids, the reason for which is said to be the empty position which is developed in crystal lattice when the atoms/ions travel from inside to the crystal surface is termed as Schottky Defect.
  • It was discovered by Schottky (German Scientist)
  • It is a kind of defect in solids where an equal number of cations and anions are absent from the respective sites.
  • It is doesn't affect the electric neutrality of the solid however the overall density is somewhat decreased. It is found in solids having cations and anions of comparable sizes.
