Frenkel defect is one in which atom is displaced from its lattice point to interstitial site, creating a vacancy at the lattice point. Here, since dislocation of atom from the lattice point happens. So, it is also called as dislocation defect.

It is a kind of defect in crystalline solids in which atoms are displaced from their lattice position to interstitial site creating vacancy at the lattice point. It usually occurs in ionic solid with large difference in size of ions. The density of crystal remains unchanged.
