The first session of Indian National Congress was held at Bombay on 28th December 1885 up to 31st December 1885, and was attended by 72 delegates.

It was earlier proposed to be organized in Pune but due to the outbreak of cholera, it was shifted to Bombay.

It was presided by WC Banerjee who was a famous lawyer.

The main demands that were put forward are as follows:

• Appointment of a commission to enquire into the working of the Indian Administration

• To abolish the Indian Council in London.

• Reduction of Military Expenditure

• To create a legislative council for North West Frontier Province
