A cyclone has its airmass revolving around it in a clockwise direction, the opposite way to a depression . Depressions are areas of low barometric pressure, but a cyclone has even lower pressures and the storms it creates are dangerous. A depression usually fills after 2 weeks. But a cyclone can go for 4 weeks. Fortunately they rarely occur in the northern hemisphere An anticyclone has its airmass revolving around it in an anticlockwise direction, the opposite way to a ridge. Ridges are areas of high barometric pressure, but an anticyclone has even high pressures. The ridge will give sunny weather and usually fades after 2 weeks. But an anticyclone can go for 4 weeks. Unfortunately, they are as rare as hen's teeth.
