It killed many residents. The Byzantine Empire was considered to be the most powerful and vast civilization with origins which can be traced over 330 AD.
Though the western half of the Roman Empire had crumbed and fell down in 476 AD.
The eastern half had survived for about 1000 more years which spawns a rich tradition of literature, art and serve as military buffer between the Asia and Europe.
