Alcohol abuse is the most frequent cause of chronic pancreatitis, but autoimmune diseases, gallstones, cystic fibrosis, and several other conditions can also cause it. The damage caused by chronic pancreatitis is usually permanent. Your pain and symptoms can usually be managed with proper treatment.

Insulin helps to control the body’s blood sugar (glucose) levels. It is produced by small groups of pancreatic cells called the Islets of Langerhans, which are also known as the "islet cells" Insulin is secreted and it causes the muscles and other bodily tissues to take up glucose from the blood to fuel their activity.

so if the pancreas is working improperly then, one could develop diabetes as pancreas' main job is to secrete insulin that controls blood sugar
