                Contrast between the Pilgrims’ arrival

Chapter 9 describes about the journey of the Pilgrims from Plymouth, England. The journey on the ship, Mayflower, was a disastrous one in which many passengers and also the crew members were falling sick. They overcame their illness and continued their journey. But unfortunately one person died during the journey. It was after two months that they reached Cape Cod.

Chapter 11 describes their first winter. The people were affected by diseases like scurvy and malnutrition. Their first winter was so horrible in Plymouth. In contrast to the incident in the ship, around 45 people died during the first winter due to these reasons. Frequently two or three died on the same day.
