Discovery of spices led European trading companies to India. Black pepper was referred as Black gold. Due to the spice trade all the companies were in a race to discover India. Portugal was the winner of the race as Vasco da Gama came to India in 15th century. But one by one Dutch, then English and then French came and this led to trade war due to the rival in business. Ultimately as British won Battle of the Plassey they were the ultimate winner of the race. As they had mastered in trade they also trading in tea industry to compete Chinese, indigo dye and opium which ultimately led to opium war with China.
