When observing the Andromeda Galaxy, Vera Rubin discovered the material at the edges of  the spiral-shaped galaxy (like most other galaxies) were moving at the just as fast as those at the center (almost near the black hole). This challenged the Newtonian law of motion.  Therefore there had to be an unseen force that acted on these galaxies (dark matter) and space altogether.

The discovery of galaxy rotation rates by Astronomer Vera Rubin helped to prove the "existence of dark matter".

Explanation:

  • The galaxy rotation problem by Veer Rubin which also lead to an evidence of dark matter.
  • But "Fritz Zwicky" discovered that all stars in body on the galaxy are clustered together and are carried by 1 percent of force to carry them all together and not to move them away from cluster.
  • Hence they named this holding force as dark matter, which cannot be seen by naked eye.
