At the main electrical panel the circuit breakers have notches that plug directly into the buss (metal plate).The buss plates are connected directly to the wires on the poles right outside your home.Circuit breakers are safety devices, they open when too much current flows (it is a safety device signaling that something is wrong). They function just like a fuse in a car. The big difference is a fuse must be manually replaced and the circuit breaker has a switch, just turn the switch on to reactivate the parallel branch.
