Election In India at the national and state level are conducted by the election commission of India, an independent body established by Constitution of India for ensuring the elections in the country are held in a free and fair manner. The election commission is headed by chief Election Commissioner.
- The right of people to vote and elect their representatives is known as franchise.
- When the adult citizens of a country exercise their franchise, irrespective of their caste, religion, gender, economic status and so on, It is referred to Universal Adult Franchise.
- Intitialy, the right to vote was granted on the basis of certain prerequisite conditions.
- Any citizen of the country has right to vote if he/she is 18 years.

- Once the process of voting completed, The candidates elected to the legislature of the state are known as the Members of Legislature assembly or MLAs, while those who are elected to the legislature at the central level, the parliament are known as Members of Parliament or MPs
