1.ground state of hydrogen atom ,I.e(1s)

2.In an energy level if electron absorbs a photon of energy equal to energy of electron in that level than electron is ejected from atom and no photon is emitted.

Solution,

  • The electronic level that would allow the hydrogen atom to absorb a photon but not to emit a photon is 1s.
  • For absorption of radiation, an electron will move from 1s level to higher levels i.e. 2s, 3s etc.
  • For emission of a photon, the should go to the lower energy level from higher energy level.
  • As we know that, 1s level has lowest energy. It means that the electron cannot go to a lower level.
  • Hence, 1s electronic level would allow the hydrogen atom to absorb a photon but not to emit a photon.
