Explanation: Tomatoes turn red by a chemical or Element called ethylene. Ethylene is odorless, tasteless and is not visble to the naked eye. When the tomato reaches the proper green mature stage, it starts to produce ethylene. The ethylene then interacts with the tomato fruit and forms the red pigment.

Tomatoes are defined as fruits because they come from flower and contain seeds. But we humans mostly use it as vegetables.
