The melting point of actinides generally do not have a clear dependence on the number of any f electrons. However, the unusual ow melting point of neptunium and plutonium (~640 °C) is often explained by the hybridization of 5f and 6d orbitals and the formation of directional bonds in these metals.

Similarly, the high melting point of Lawrencium,  a synthetic chemical element with the symbol Lr is aslo explained. The element has an atomic number of 103 and is the eleventh transuranic element and also the final member of the actinide series. Similar to all the elements with atomic number over 100, lawrencium can only be produced in particle accelerators by the bombardment of the lighter elements with charged particles.
