Explanation:

The cation which contain valency number of 2+ and form two chemical bond with anion is called divalent cation.

EX- Magnesium is called as divalent cation as it contain valency number 2+

The atomic number of magnesium is 12 thus the arrangement of electrons in K,L,M,N orbit will have=

K=2

L=8

M=2

As, the last orbit contain 2 electron, thus the valency of Mg is 2.
