Vasco da Gama was a Portuguese explorer and the first European who reached India by sea. He reach India via Atlantic Ocean.
He sailed from Lisbon, Portugal in July 1497 rounded the Cape of good hope and reaches Calicut on Malabar coast on May 20th 1498.
On his third voyage to India, he reached Goa on September 11th 1524, he soon fell ill and three months later he died on 24th December in Kochi.
