Odysseus and his men land on an island Cicones belonging to Helios, the Sun God. Although they were hungry, Zeus had warned them against eating Helios’ sacred cattle. But, their hunger did not allow them to pay heed to these words. This enrages Zeus and he sends a dangerous storm to the island in order to punish Odysseus and his crew for their offence. The storm destroys their ship and kills all the crew, sparing only Odysseus.
