it is found that light. coming out from the other faces of the prism is split into seven. colors that is violet indigo blue green yellow orange and red this phenomenon is called dispersion. atlight the phenomenon of splitting of white light into its seven constituent colors is called dispersion of lightcause

The 2 slant faces of the prism produce dispersion.. When the light enters from rarer medium to denser medium it moves towards the normal or towards the base (in a prism). The refracted ray now hence considered as incident ray which pass through another slant face...and now it travels away from the normal.. Dividing or dispersing the light in their different wavelength...
