Because it does not depend on other plants for it's process of reproduction to be carried out.

Explanation:

  • Formation of ‘new species’ from pre-existing population is called ‘speciation’.
  • The basic factor involves in speciation of new “self-pollinating” plant species is genetic drift, natural selection, and mutation.
  • The factor “geographical isolation” cannot be considered for self-pollination plants because no physical barrier happens in self-pollination plant.
  • The self-pollinating plant rarely shows the variation.
  • This is because the self-pollinating plant receive the pollen grain from same flower or another flower on another plant.
