Relief features we see today have taken million of years to form and may not remain the same after millions of years too. There are a number of factor that are related to the modification of these reliefs which are as follows:-

1. TECTONIC MOVEMENT

The tectonic plates have two types of movement - a. Convergent(come towards each other) b. Divergent(moves away from each other). Convergent helps in the formation of fold mountains and Himalayas are the biggest example of fold mountain being formed by tectonic movement whereas divergent movement helps in the formation of various troughs.

2. VOLCANIC ACTIVITIES

Volcanic activities result in the formation of various relief features. It results in the formation of various volcanic mountains through the deposition of the lava. The big craters often form lakes after the volcano becomes extinct. Deposition and cooling down of lava results in the formation of fertile soils for growing crops.

3. WIND

Wind is a agent of erosion. As a result it does a great work in eroding the high lands or the hills reducing it in size and depositing it in a area which may in the later years result in the formation of a high land through deposition. But this is a very slow process and is not possible for a human being to witness such thing in his lifetime.

4. WATER

Water in the hilly region also act as a erosive agent. They continuously erode the river bed or the mountain slope while flowing downwards and deposit them in the foothills thus bringing certain changes in the relief structure.

5. LANDSLIDES AND EARTHQUAKES

They both have a destructive effect on the relief features. Landslide is the downward movemenf of rock debris through a gentle or steep slope mostly in the presence of water. Whereas earthquake takes place when the tectonic plates collide each other during their movement. Thus they effect the relief structure in one or the other way.
