if we have to assess a democracy  we have to monitor or assess the elections. Events before and after the election also need to be assessed.

Like for example, we need to see whether the given the chance to have their own opinions and can choose whomever they want. Opposition parties should also be given the chance to campaign during the period before elections and after elections they  should have the right to criticize the ruling party.We need to assess whether the media and the people criticize  are allowed to criticize the government or not and all the people are viewed equal in the eyes of law or not.

if we cannot find all of these elements in a democratic country then the country is not following the ideals of democracy.
