Which feature distinguishes a star from a planet ?

a star has onlY soil dust and an planet has something special like water land air etc

Basically we know stars are those bodies which are very much far from us and are light emitting bodies which twinkle due to refraction of light but planets are those heavenly bodies which are considered as the collection of points sources which have same intensity of light ...thus they do not twinkle and are very near to the earth than the stars.....
