which force is responsible for high tides?

Tides are caused by the attractive forces of moon and sun's gravitational field and also caused by the centrifugal force due to earth's spin. As the position of these celestial bodies change so do the surface's height. So , for example if the moon is aligned with earth the high tides will form.
 
The gravitational law is important in understanding the phenomena of earth revolution and in understanding the functioning  of satellite, t.v etc . For example if u want satellite in orbit you need to know the law of gravitation.
