Dry cleaning is done with petroleum-based solvents like gasoline or kerosene, tetrachloroethylene or perchloroethylene. These solvents are used instead of water as some items of clothing cannot withstand the rough and tumble of conventional washing. So, it is safe to say derivatives of the fossil fuel petroleum is used for dry cleaning.
