The human respiratory system consists of the external nostril chambers, pharynx, Larynx, trachea, bronchi, bronchioles and lungs.

Human have a pair of external nostrils opening out above the upper lips.

It leads to nasal chamber through the nasal passage. The nasal chamber opens into pharynx.

Nasal passage functionally divided into 3 regions.

\bigstar Vestibular region : skin, hair, sebaceous glands are present.

\bigstar Respiratory region : It is lined by pseudo stratified coloumnar ciliated glandular epithelium.

\bigstar Olfactory region : Neuro sensory. epithelium.

Pharynx

\leadsto Pharynx is the common chamber for passage of food and air.

\leadsto Pharynx is divided into oropharynx, nasopharynx and laryngopharynx. Nasal chamber leads nasopharynx through a pair of internal nostrils.

\leadsto In the pharyngeal chamber, 2 slit like apertures are present.

  • Dorsal pore is called as gullet which opens into the oesophagus that is path of food.
  • Ventral pore is called the glottis and it opens into the larynx that is respiratory passage.
