Carbon dioxide gas
An acid , such as dilute hydrochloric acid, is added to the test compound. Carbon dioxide gas bubbles if carbonate ions are present. Limewater is used to confirm that the gas is carbon dioxide.

CO2 is evolved when acid reacts with carbonate or hydrogen carbonate.
we can test this gas by passing it through limewater.. if limewater turns milky it is co2 ..when excess of co2 is passed in limewater its milkyness disappears...
hope it helps u!!❤✌❤✌
