Solid Carbon dioxide CO2 is known as dry gas. Because it looks like ice and because when it melts it goes from solid straight to gas not liquid. Hence it is called as dry gas.

• When we start applying pressure to a particles of matter, the matter starts to get the particles of matter closer and together.

　

• Similarly, when the solid CO2 is stored under a high pressure place the temperature and due to the pressure it gets converted into the gaseous state of matter and this dissolve into our human atmosphere.

　

This is why Solid CO2 is known as Dry ice.
