When acid reacts wit metal then the gas liberated is hydrogen(H).For test of presence of gas you can bring candle near it and you'lol listen a pop sound.

Hydrogen gas is evolved

acid+metal => salt+hydrogen

example
nitric acid+ calcium=> calcium nitrate+hydrogen
