Which gas reduce the heat available for transfer through the heat transfer surface?

For gases, the heat transfer coefficient is much lower than liquids. In order to obtain the desired overall heat transfer coefficient, turbulence and area on the gas side should be increased. It can be attained by using exchangers with extended surfaces. Plate/fin heat exchangers have lots of thin metal plates or fins with a large surface area. Plate and fin heat exchangers provide high heat transfer efficiency, especially in gas treatment.
Also, direct contact heat exchangers can be used in special cases of gas-liquid heat transfer. Most direct contact heat exchangers fall under the gas-liquid category, where heat is transferred between a gas and liquid in the form of drops, films or sprays. Such types of heat exchangers are used predominantly in air conditioning, humidification, industrial hot water heating, water cooling and condensing plants.
