Deep sea diving and recreational diving require different gas mixtures, which are carried in an equipment called Aqualung. It basically consists of a small, pressurised gas cylinder and the apparatus to regulate and breath the gas mixture contained within.
Usually for dives below 130 metres, a mixture of oxygen, nitrogen and helium, known as Hydreliox, is used.
For deeper dives, Hydrox – a gas mixture of hydrogen and oxygen is used. Trimix is a gas mixture consisting of nitrogen, oxygen and helium, in different ratios, used for very deep dives and to increase the duration of a dive.
