The basic difference between compounds and elements are :

The molecules of compounds contains the atoms of different elemets, while the molecules of elements contain atoms of only one element.

This same applies for the gases,

The element gases Hydrogen , oxygen, nitrogen, chlorine, bromine, etc. ( as they contain only atoms of sone element)

The compound gases are carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, ammonia etc. (As thier molecule contains atoms of different elements)
