The pancreas is a compound (both exocrine and endocrine) / mixocrine gland.

Its exocrine part secrets alkaline pancreatic juice with pH 8.4.

While the endocrine part consists of groups of islets of Langerhans which have following cells ;

(a) Alpha cells - secrets glucagon hormone. (converts glycogen into glucose)

(b) Beta cells - secrets insulin hormone

(c) Delta cells - secrets somatostatin

hormone. (Inhibits secretion of intestinal juices.)
