The group 18 or VII A is known as the inert group. It conists of inert gases. Inert gases are gases which are stable and do not take part in any of the chemical reaction. They follow octet rule(having 8 electrons in the valence shell). As they are stable and do not take part in any chemical reaction they are known as “inert gases” and the group which belongs to inert gases is known as “inert group”
