Bryophytes are called “Amphibians of plant kingdom”.  

Explanation:

They are considered to be the simplest multi cellular plant. They are called as “amphibians of plant kingdom” because though the plants can grow in soil but they are dependent on water for sexual reproduction.  

Bryophytes include two plant species namely Liverworts and Mosses and these two can be differentiated form each other as shown:

Liverworts

  • It has Thallus-like plant body.
  • It possess unicellular Rhizoids.

Mosses

  • It has stem like plant body.
  • It possess multicellular Rhizoids.
