The magnetic moment depends on the no of unpaired electron. Higher the no of unpaired electron, greater will be the magnetic moment. It is expressed in Bohr magneton.
Magnetic moment =√[n(n+2)] B.M
Generally lanthanides show high magnetic moment. They contain a large number of unpaired electron. For this reason the can be used in ihe identification of organic compound in NMR.
