Testosterone is the male sex hormone that is responsible for the secondary male characteristics in human body.

Oestrogen and progesterone are the female sex hormones that regulate the formation of female secondary characteristics.

The hypothalamus in the brain releases follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) when a man or woman reaches the puberty age.

In males, FSH and LH enter the testes and trigger the release of testosterone.

In females, FSH and LH react in ovarian follicles and release oestrogen and progesterone for growth of secondary sexual developments.
