Nuclear Fission is the process used in reactors these days to harness nuclear energy as it is very difficult for fusion to take place under normal conditions.
In Nuclear Fission a heavy nucleus is splitted into two light nuclei by bombarding it with slow neutrons.
For Example- When Uranium is bombarded with a neutron it splits into Barium and Krypton of smaller atomic mass and releases huge amount of energy.
