Which Indian port lost its importance during colonial rule ? Why ?

while colonial rule later 19 th ports were abolished those are surat , masulipattinam , cochin , Chittagong were de urbanised and the British established new Port cities like Madras , Bombay , Calcutta and these Sprang up because these are main cities as they are very near to the sea and were they can trade easily and they made it according to the sides ,when you take Chennai which is the only Port City where they could gain the goods easily and they shift same they applied to the other and these were also called as presidency towns
