Which is better, Guitar or Casio?

This is kind of an apples to oranges question…and yet I can relate. When I was 12 I asked for a Casio keyboard for my birthday. My parents got me a guitar instead. For me that changed my (musical) life. So I’m glad for it.

That said. Casio is a keyboard. If you are a piano or keyboard player a Casio is a good thing. They make a wide range of keyboards at varying qualities (so obviously a $200 Casio keyboard is not the same as a $2,000 Casio keyboard). The same could be said of brands like Yamaha, Roland, Akai, Korg.

Guitar is a generic term for a 6 stringed instrument. There are acoustic and electric varieties. Key brands of guitars include Fender, Epiphone, Gibson, Ibanez, Yamaha, Taylor, LTD, Jackson. If you get an electric guitar you will also need an amp: Peavey, Fender, Line 6, Mesa Boogie, Marshall are just some of the brands that make amps.

So at this point the question might be: “I want to get into a rock band. Would it be better to play guitar or keyboards?”

Guitar is probably the more versatile of the two. If you learn a few chords you can be playing a bunch of songs in no time.

Keyboard takes work. Especially if you want to be good. But good keyboardists are hard to fine. So if you have the knack. Go with keyboard.

If you’re thinking of a career in rock music (or jazz, or country, or blues, or any style). The world really needs good bass players and drummers. [So that would be neither guitar nor Casio.]
