The visweswaraya iron and steel ltd.

It is the unit of steel authority of India . It is in the production of alloy steel and pig iron. It is located in Bhadravathi in India. In the beginning there was a wood distillation plant to manufacture charcoal.and blast furnace for smelting iron. This was set up in a factory. Later an iron pipe plant, open hearth furnace, cement plant were later set up. The factory was renamed Mysore iron and steel works.

In 1923 while setting up a plant coal was not available the charcoal obtained from the forest-wood was used for smelting. Now it uses hydroelectric power obtained from Sharavati Power Project.
