HEYA--

1.Stainless steel: easy to maintain and more forgiving if you are careless. But, they are not scratch proof, and lose their sheen. 

2.Glass: looks good, but gotta be careful. I have seen glass tops crack into pieces. Though it is toughened glass, when the surface is hot, if you place something cold/wipe with water immediately, there is a tendency to crack. So one has to be extra careful. Cleaning underneath the burners in case of a spill is bit cumbersome compared to the steel tops in case of inbuilt hobs.
