It is because these are negative numbers, but if the case would be with +8.25 and +8.9 then +8.9 would be greater.

Don't get confused. Take numbers -1 and -2 which one is greater?

Obviously -1.

Similarly, if u have to find greater numbers on negative side just imagine them as positive and the number which will be smaller would be greater in negative side.
