Mars is often called the 'Red Planet' because it appears in the sky as an orange-red star. The colour caused the ancient Greeks and Romans to name it after their god of war. Today, thanks to visiting spacecraft, we know that theplanet's appearance is due to rust in the Martian rocks

Hii There!!
'Mars' is known as red planet. Red colour is a result of Iron Rusting.Rocks and soil on the surface of Marscontained a dust composed mostly of iron and small amounts of other elements such as chlorine and sulhpur. The rocks and soil were eroded by wind and the dust was blown across the surface by ancient volcanoes.
Hope it helps
